Here is how it works: Your email address will be placed in a "group address book" with other church members. When important prayer requests, news, announcements, updates, and reminders need to be quickly distributed, an email will be sent to all who signed up.

Here’s a couple examples. Upon receiving news of someone admitted to the hospital, I will send out an email including specific prayer requests. Perhaps a blizzard would bring into question the cancellation of church services; now you can get the word first hand. Other reminders and announcements could be distributed as well. The purpose of Instant Updates is to make sure that everyone is receiving the same first hand information in a timely fashion.

This will be for church business only. Your email address will not be given out. You will not be sent silly forwards of junk mail (circulated stories, jokes, and meaningless anecdotes).
